In cooperation with the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association, HHYF staff and stable began our 2019 summer season in early June. First stop was Bucyrus, followed by two days at Van Wert, one at the Darke County Fair, and then on to Marysville with more than three dozen campers attending the one-day events. Many thanks to Robert Lasky who made a quick run to Goshen, New York to pick up jog carts and then to the state of Delaware to pick up horses before he even started his regularly-scheduled driving responsibilities. Katie Eick, with HHYF for her third straight summer as an assistant and Buckeye Hannah Hassan provided instruction.
Lasky and Eick then made the long 10-hour journey to Harrington Raceway for their three-day event. With the stable looking first-class and the horses settled in to the routine, Katie, along with Susan Garey (HHYF Service To Youth recipient) Karen Craft, the participants got the full taste of camp. One highlight was harness racing game night which included lots of laughs!
Summer continues with stops at Shenandoah Downs, Gaitway Farm, Goshen Historic track (Leadership Program), the New Meadowlands, The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, and the season finale at Diamond Creek Farm on August 17.
