HARNESS
HORSE YOUTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications for a number
of college scholarships administered by the non-profit Harness Horse
Youth Foundation are now available. All applications and
related materials must be postmarked by April 30, 2007.
Applicants for the scholarships
must be at least high school seniors and preferably under the age
of 25. The selection criteria for all of the scholarships include
demonstrated scholastic achievement, including but not limited to
the applicant’s GPA; financial need; completeness of application;
and quality of essay (where applicable).

The Gallo Blue Chip
Scholarship
Applicant must be child of harness horse trainer or caretaker licensed
in New York and/or New Jersey in the year of application. Applicant
must also have been raised and/or reside in the two-state region
and at least a senior in high school. Students pursuing graduate
degrees are not eligible.

The Charles Bradley
Memorial
Applicants must be children or relatives of racing officials who
were members of the North American Judges & Stewards Association
and/or licensed USTA pari-mutuel officials in the following categories:
presiding judges, associate judges, paddock judges, & starters.
Applicants must be at least seniors in high school. The Bradley
Memorial was named in memory of Charles Bradley, a highly-respected
state regulator and founder of the North American Judges and Stewards
Association.

The Curt Greene Memorial
For students who have demonstrated a passion for harness racing
and have financial need. Applicant may or may not be pursuing a
career in harness racing industry. Applicant must be at least a
high school senior.

The Vincent Abate
Memorial Scholarship
For sons and daughters of employees of The Meadowlands and/or Freehold
Raceway. Applicant must be at least a senior in high school and
have 3.0 GPA (B average or higher). Applicant may be pursuing any
course of study but must be working towards a 2-year associate's
or 4-year bachelor's degree and must be enrolled as a full time
student (at least 12 credit hours). Applicant must be accepted into
a 2-year technical school or a 2- or 4-year degree program.
