HARNESS RACING YOUTH LEAGUE CONTESTS PART OF HARRINGTON FINALE

Harrington Raceway's spring/summer meet entered a five-week hiatus, but went out with a bang on Thursday night (July 3) as a spectacular display of fireworks highlighted the closing night program.

There will be one day of racing during the Delaware State Fair on July 24, while the meet resumes its normal Sunday through Thursday schedule on August 10.

Early in the night, a series of races were held for Harness Horse Youth League participants, who were on the grounds since Sunday, enjoying a five-day camp that gave them an education in harness racing. Three races were held among the campers with parents, family and friends on hand.

Led by Executive Director Ellen Taylor, HHYF provides youth groups with an introduction to harness racing at several locations across the country. Harrington Raceway's Director of Facilities, Karen Craft, is also active with the group and is on its board of trustees.

Also, the grand prize drawing for the track's G.E.M. (Greet, Eat & Meet) promotion was held with Linda Menke winning a $2,000 gift certificate to Chardon Jewelers, who co-sponsored the event with First Horizon Home Loans and Jeff White's Autoworks.

Each week a customer was drawn to participate in a meet and greet with an active trainer and driver, that included a tour of the paddock and ride in the starting car. They also enjoyed a fine dining experience at Bonz, Harrington Raceway and Casino's upscale restaurant. The nine weekly winners were entered into Thursday's grand prize drawing.

Horsemen that participated were also eligible for a $2,000 travel voucher from Jetset Travel, which was won by owner/trainer George Teague, Jr.

Established in 1976, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation addresses youth education throughout the United States and Canada. A charitable organization, the HHYF continues to enlarge and improve its programs.
