2009 HARNESS RACING YOUTH LEAGUE FIRST STOP ODDS ON RACING
The first 2009 Harness Racing Youth League summer camp program is officially underway. Odds On Racing in Crete, Illinois is hosting the event with the final exhibitions to take place at Balmoral Park on Tuesday evening, June 23rd.
Now in its tenth season, HRYL travels with horses, equipment, and teaching supplies across the Midwest and East coast introducing and educating young people about harness racing. While some students are from racing families, the majority are not. All are thrilled with the opportunity to participate in the camps devoted to discovering many facets of harness racing.
“This program is primarily designed to excite young people and their families about Standardbreds” explained Harness Horse Youth Foundation Executive Director Ellen Taylor. “Yet, another very compelling aspect is observing the individual child gain confidence and radiate happiness simply from having contact with race horses for a few days.”
At the conclusion of the Odds On camp, HRYL will continue its 7-stop summer tour consisting of Harrington Raceway, Freedom Fest at the NJ Horse Park, Goshen Historic Track, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Vernon Downs, and The Meadowlands.
“HHYF is truly appreciative of the sponsors and volunteers for the camp program. The visionaries who recognize harness racing’s future is directly tied to the introduction of new fans and other participants are critically important to the success of HRYL,” continued Taylor. “Of course, we welcome visitors to witness the program for themselves. Then, hopefully, we might build an even stronger support base for additional worthwhile HHYF projects.”
Established in 1976, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation addresses youth education throughout the United States and Canada. A charitable organization, the HHYF continues to enlarge and improve its programs.
