At today's monthly
meeting of the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission, Gene Chabrier,
Director of Regulatory Affairs for the XpressBet horseracing wagering
firm, gave a $10,000 donation on behalf of XpressBet to the Harness
Horse Youth Foundation, harness racing's organization that looks
to develop interest in harness racing in young people so that they
may be the future participants in the sport.
The check was accepted
by Anton J. Leppler, executive secretary of the Harness Commission
and a member of the Board of Director of the Youth Foundation.
The Harness Horse Youth
Foundation, headquartered in Indiana under the supervision of executive
director Ellen Taylor, maintains an active role on several fronts
to promote harness racing among young people.
Perhaps their most
successful project is the Harness Racing Youth League series, which
takes a dozen young teenagers living close to a track and allowing
them to work with miniature standardbreds in the stable area of
that track for a week, learning respect for the animal and the other
workers, cooperation, and a sense of achievement.
The Youth League will
be stopping at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs for the seventh straight
year this July 16-20.
XpressBet was founded
in 2002 by Magna Entertainment Corporation, who operates the racing
meet at The Meadows, the harness track in western Pennsylvania.
XpressBet offers over 100 tracks for wagering, and includes distribution
of both video and audio feeds.
