HARNESS RACING YOUTH LEAGUE - LEVEL 2 COMING TO LEXINGTON AREA
The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is pleased to announce that Harness Racing Youth League Level 2 will be held at the Red Mile August 7 to 10, 2008. This event promises to be full of opportunities to learn about harness racing. Participants will be allowed backstretch access, take farm and veterinary clinic tours as well as enjoy a night at the races, all blended with creative methods of absorbing the information.
HRYL Level 2 is designed for young people 14 years and older and their parents. Previous attendees of HRYL Level 1 as well as serious students of harness racing are also welcome to apply.
The camp’s purpose is to provide exposure to the various facets of harness racing, from hands-on learning to career opportunities.
“Often times, parents need reassurance that racing is a viable option for their child’s future in horses. A few of the activities will be strictly for the young people and a few for only for the parents, but the majority will be jointly presented in fun formats for both audiences,” said HHYF’s Executive Director Ellen Taylor.
Applications must be submitted and the deadline for their return is June 15. A registration fee of $150 per student will be expected at the time of acceptance. This fee includes all food (except for 1 meal) during the event and transportation on the tours. Lodging is not included in the fee; a block of rooms has been reserved for the event at the Springhill Suites (859-255-1500) right next to the Red Mile. When making reservations, be sure to mention “HHYF” to obtain the group rate of $102. The rate is only guaranteed until July 1.
Established in 1976, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation addresses youth education throughout the United States and Canada. A charitable organization, the HHYF continues to enlarge and improve its programs.
