HRYL TROTTINGBREDS SETTLED INTO THEIR SPRINGTIME HOMES

HRYL held camp at Odds On Racing in 2008

The horses used in the Harness Racing Youth League summer camps are now officially back in “spring training” for another full summer of activity. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Robin Schadt, Marlys Pinske (HHYF trustees) and Donna Ozment, each of the nine horses is now on a regime of regular jogging in order to be ready for the first camp which kicks off at Odds On Racing on June 19.

The camps continue each week through August so the horses must be fit, properly gaited, and possess manners appropriate for inexperienced young horsemen and women.

“HHYF is very pleased to have such wonderful volunteers who are willing to assist with the preparation process” said President Callie Davies-Gooch. “This year in particular is critical as we have several new horses and we want to make sure they are suitable for the rigors of the summer program.”

Those graciously accepting responsibility for this important component of the success of HRYL include: Angie Affrunti (Crete, IL); Mike Arnold Stable (Crete, IL); J & E Davis Stable (Hartly, DE); Eddie Dennis Stable (Harrington Raceway), Homer Hochstetler Stable (Crete, IL); Hannah Miller (Springfield, IL); Tom Simmons Stable (Springfield, IL); Elizabeth Wegmann (Crete, IL); Roger Welch Stable (Crete, IL).

Established in 1976, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation addresses youth education throughout the United States and Canada. A charitable organization, the HHYF continues to enlarge and improve its programs. For more information about the organization and its programs, please call the HHYF office at 317-867-5877 or visit www.hhyf.org.
