GLIDEMASTER
TO BENEFIT HHYF TRUCK CAMPAIGN
The Harness Horse Youth
Foundation, with assistance from HTA and Hoosier Park, held its
first Harness Racing Youth League camp in 1999. Since that time,
the summer program has grown significantly in both scope and notoriety
thanks to generous donors, host tracks, and enthusiastic participants.
At a recent HHYF meeting, discussions revolved around ways to make
HRYL even better and in a position to reach more young people. Though
Troy Ford's support in procuring a suitable vehicle to pull the
generously donated Eby horse trailer has been invaluable, the board
decided that in order to take the next step, HHYF needed to purchase
its own truck to haul the stable and equipment during the busy summer
months.
The board also recognized
the enormous fundraising effort this would require and that broad
based industry support will be needed to achieve this goal. The
Glidemaster Syndicate managed by Brittany Farms Stallion Management
has stepped up to the task and taken a leadership role by donating
a Glidemaster breeding to be sold at the January Meadowlands sale.
All proceeds will be placed in the "truck fund" with hopes that
the truck can be purchased in late spring of 2007.
Specific conditions concerning
the Glidemaster breeding may be found in the sale catalog.
The HRYL program is designed
to introduce young people who are not from racing families to the
excitement of harness racing. With the cooperation of USTA, a level
2 event has been added, and, plans are to add a level 3 in the near
future. HRYL has proven results that this approach works in capturing
new fans. The rate of growth of the program lies in securing enough
funds to allow the building process to proceed rapidly.
In addition to the "truck
fund", HHYF has placed on its wish list of items needed to maintain
the stable: small head halters, small hobbles and carriers, small
leather halters, and other stable-related items.
HHYF is confident that
the industry support will emerge and is seeking contributions for
this effort. Anyone having questions or wishing to donate is encouraged
to contact the HHYF office. Donations to HHYF are tax-deductible
as allowed by law and all donors will be recognized.
Established in 1976,
the Harness Horse Youth Foundation addresses youth education throughout
the United States and Canada. A charitable organization, the HHYF
continues to enlarge and improve its programs. For more information
about the organization and its programs, please call the HHYF office
